Why DIY?
Specially in the
“New Normal”.

With the advent of the “New Normal”, there has been a sea change not only in the way we think and behave, but also in the way we shop and consume. We have become conscious about what we use, and its effect on the environment. On a lighter note, there are many of us, who are a breath away from opening up their own salons. We have given ourselves haircut, and we have become master chefs (at least in our own right). Another boom that we are now seeing is in the DIY beauty treatments.

From DIY makeup removers and toner, to face packs, hair packs, body scrubs, stretch mark creams; everything that you can think of under sun, is currently being made by ourselves for ourselves and our loved ones. None of the leftovers is going to waste and whatever the waste might be, its organic and hence biodegradable. What started off as a way to self soothe and care for ourselves and also the unavailability of a lot of products has now become a norm. With the world moving toward sustainability and a conscious lifestyle, this could make a huge difference.

But, let’s stop a little and think, why are we diving into DIY, now more than ever? Is it because we have a lot of time to do this and also it gives us a sense of control? As consumers, we have become a lot more conscious. We want to know about the fine prints on the labels and we want to know what ingredients are being used in our products. We wonder if this is another way of taking charge of what’s going on in our bodies? But, does this mean that when all of this settles, will this trend reverse back?

Here is a quote from celebrity makeup artist Lekha Gupta, in her interview with Pinkvilla,
